We are expecting a baby girl in January. We are currently 29 weeks, and starting our 3rd trimester. We can’t even begin to express how excited we are and how blessed we feel to be given such an amazing experience in our life!
We found out we were expecting on May 24th and confirmed the pregnancy with a trip to the doctor on June 2nd. We are incredibly lucky. We had decided to “not-not try” and we got pregnant in the first month! It took us by a slight surprise since we didn’t expect to be able to get pregnant so quickly, but God has his plans, and we’re so glad he choose to make it “easy” on us!! It was difficult to keep the news quiet, but we decided not to share the good news until after our first trimester. We didn’t want to “jinx” it. Thankfully, we were almost done with the school year, and there weren’t many events or outings planned where avoiding alcohol would be a huge clue! We did host Margarita Madness, and Shelley drank Virgin-Margarita’s all night! (FYI, the tequila really masks how SWEET those mixes are!)
Once we hit about 6 weeks pregnant, Shelley started to feel slightly icky. It was not the most pleasant first trimester – into the 5th month. But, as the saying goes….the sicker you are, the healthier the baby is!!! We ended up telling a select few people in June. (Shelley could only fake being hung-over for so long before someone started to suspect, or refer her for alcohol abuse counseling). Once we got into the second trimester, we started telling our close family and extended family and friends the news to everyone over the next few days. We were pleased to see how excited everyone was for us, and how anxious our family was to welcome a new member to the family!
We ended up having to switch doctors, and our new doctor is wonderful. He is very “basic” and down-to-earth. He has gotten to know Shelley really well, and can calm her concerns down relatively quickly. He was actually recommended by both a friends of ours, and the hospital we plan to deliver at, so that was a HUGE bonus.
We’ve looked at a few daycare centers and like two a lot. Our church has a daycare that has a wonderful infant room, and is recommended all-over the valley. A fellow teacher actually has his children enrolled there as well. Thankfully, it doesn’t look like we’re going to have to use daycare until the beginning of next school year. Shelley’s mom has agreed to come and stay with us through the end of the school year. Shelley will be able to take her maternity leave, then Dave will be able to take a few weeks, and after that, Debbie will come out and be our live-in nanny!!! Thanks GiGi
We found our out little bun in the oven is going to be a girl on August 26th. The little princess is stubborn already! The ultrasound technician had to push and poke until she about gave up, when finally our princess showed us that she wanted a lot of PINK!! We suspected that we were having a girl the whole time since both of our families are made up of “first-born-females,” but finding out for sure that we were having a girl was such a moment to remember! We were also so relieved to know that the baby was measuring and registering healthy and “normal” on all the charts! We can’t tell you how much we LOVE the word NORMAL!!!!!!! Since then, we’ve had several more appointments, and everything has been “normal.”
We have registered at Babies R Us and Target. It was difficult to start the registering process. We had no clue where to “begin.” There are a million different bottles, thousands of blankets, hundreds of Pack n Plays, it was overwhelming. But, with the help of some veteran moms, we got our registry all figured out. Although, we’re still taking suggestions!!
Dave has been hard at work getting the house “baby proofed” in preparation for Baby Girl Kress’s arrival. She has been blessed with so many fantastic gifts already that we are contemplating adding another level to the house J We are turning the guest room, that was previously Brother Brian’s room, into the nursery. It is right across the hall from our room, so it will make stumbling into the nursery at 2am a little bit easier! Dave painted it Pink & Brown to match her “theme,” as well as installed new flooring and moved the window over to create another closet. There is still a little bit left to do, but he’s in the home stretch now!
We were given two baby showers the weekend of Oct. 23rd. Shelley’s friend, Melissa Miziniak, hosted a shower that Saturday night at her house for the baby and Shelley with the help of Jonica Trude & Sarah Allen. So many of Shelley’s friends were able to make it, as well as both of our mom’s!! The next afternoon, Shelley’s mom hosted a shower at Niko’s in Huntley for family and family friends. It was very special to see so much family gathering around to welcome Baby Girl Kress. It is was overwhelming to see how generous everyone is. Our baby is so loved and so blessed already with the support and affection of so many special people. We are such a lucky little family to have so many amazing people in our lives that go out of their way to make our baby feel welcome. We have the absolute best family and best friends anyone could ever ask for, or pray for. We pray that our baby can find such tremendous friends as we have, and that our baby can appreciate all the love and support our family gives to us!
We are so anxious to meet Baby Girl Kress! We are still working on her first name, but we’ve decided on Renee as her middle name (which are both Shelley’s middle name, as well as her mom’s middle name…it’s a tradition) and we’re defiantly going to go with Kress as a last name J
Life is changing and we’re so excited to start this new ‘era’ in our life. We’ll keep you posted on all the wonderful and exciting events and moments!!
